| What is "Ready, Set, Goals?" |
The Seattle Seahawks Literacy program, Ready, Set, Goals, is designed to
enhance reading comprehension, writing, and goal-setting skills for 3rd
through 6th grade students.
Each month, either a Seahawks player or a Sea Gal will write a story about a goal they had,
the challenges they faced, and the steps they took to attain their goal.
There are nine areas of goal setting used throughout the school year.
These areas are:
- Becoming a strong reader
- Improving study habits and grades
- Taking care of your body through exercise, rest and eating the right foods
- Fulfilling a dream for the future.
- Taking on responsibilities at home to help those you live with.
- Earning and saving money for the future.
- Taking action in your community to make it a better place to live.
- Treating classmates as you would want to be treated.
- Learning about other cultures to understand their way of life.
|
|
The player will also talk about a favorite childhood book or one of their own childrens favorite books.
|
| |
| How do you participate? |
Monthly stories are available to teachers on the Seahawks web site or by calling Paul
Johns at Seattle Seahawks at 425-893-5078.
Students are asked to read the monthly stories and then write their own story about a
goal they had or currently have. Students can use the
SeahawksReady, Set, Goals Story Form
to help them write their stories just like our Seahawks Player of the Month. There will also be a
section entitled How to Set Your Own Goals that will help
students in goal setting.
Three classes per month will be selected at random to participate in a live,
videoconference with either a Seahawks player or a Sea Gal and Blitz, the Seahawks mascot.
These conferences will take place on the second Tuesday of the next month.
Of the three classes selected per month, one of those schools will have
the player who authored the story and Blitz in attendance for the
videoconferencing. A drawing will be held for one lucky student, his/her
parents and his/her teacher to attend a Seahawks game the following
season.
